What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia — a thick band of tissue connecting your heel bone to your toes.

Foot Pain

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

  • Sharp or stabbing heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning

  • Pain that lessens with movement but returns after long periods of standing or sitting

  • Tenderness along the arch or bottom of the foot

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis often results from repetitive stress, especially in runners, or from muscle imbalances in the lower limbs. Wearing unsupportive footwear and standing for long periods can also increase your risk.
